ART1133 PROJECTS

"At first glance of my picture you will notice that I chose to go a different route with my medium, I decided to draw Starry Night on the pavement in my office with sidewalk chalk. I have always found this type of art to be interesting; I could stare at chalk art all day. The artist who inspired me with his work was Julian Beever. Unlike his pavement art, mine does not jump off the “page”. Still I have to give him credit for the creative process.

The second thing you will notice is that I decided to do Starry Night over Iraq. It reflects my view of the situations I see day to day. First the harshness of the military tower, concertina wire stripped across the bordering edge of town, the outlines of a convoy in the distant hills, and yet you can still see the beauty and the peaceful tranquility of the starry night, with a gentle breeze whisking across the town of clay huts centered around the Mosque. Just by looking at the picture you know that everyone is sleeping peacefully in their homes just as though we are never there.

In conclusion, I learned a lot about art as I was drawing this, I learned how much I miss drawing. It has been a few years since I dedicated my time to drawing anything with any kind of meaning. It actually helped me put into words my feelings of why we’re here, and if I believe we are honestly helping this country. This is why the theme of my project is, “2 worlds colliding”. This picture demonstrates that we can coexist with each other even though we are from 2 different worlds."
