I choose wire for my medium. I thought how hard is it to manipulate wire? I was in for a big surprise. Imagine and putting your thoughts to work through you project was difficult. You could not be too aggressive or easy. I went through quite a bit of wire before the finish product.
After it was done, I was excited with the finish product. Ms. Elizabeth Berrien, who works with wire, has worked with wire for over 37 years. She is very well known through out the art community as the best wire sculptor.

For my art project it was difficult for me to find a picture that I felt any motivation to copy. I’m not a conceited person but I got this feeling that the best thing I could draw was myself. I figured that if I could handle seeing all the imperfections of myself, and copy exactly as I saw them then I could handle drawing anything else. The shading was definitely a challenge. It was difficult to go from doing the light to the dark. I’ve always done it the opposite, dark to light. Either that or just do an area at a time. Although there are many artists that have done self portraits one I found stuck out. Zinaida Yevgenyevna Serebryakova definitely deserver her space among respected artists. I’ve done a project similar to this once but I used a picture out of a magazine and it just didn’t seem as personal.                                         Sarah Back
